On 29th November 2015 Mutuku had the exhibition ‘Visceral II| M Theory’ at the Little Gallery in Nairobi. The exhibition was a continuation from ‘Visceral | Mental Mirrors’ and included a number of red vinyl on mirror works and a video installation. Placed opposite these pieces were new paper works that had been scorched with laser. The exhibition created a conversation between these two bodies of work, in an attempt to investigate ideas around existence through the concept of string theory. String theory is a scientific principle that posits a theory of everything. The works on paper represent this unified theory through one-dimensional ‘strings’ scorched onto the paper in a symmetrical fashion. The strings can be seen to propagate through space and interact with each other. The exhibition and works do not intend to explain string theory, neither could they if wanted. Rather, Mutuku’s work visualises connection across time and space. As Mutuku states “the work is not an answer, the work is just a way to spark dialogue or to become the foundation for thinking in a certain direction”.
